Rare enamel patch box of Richard Brinsley Sheridan
Very rare patch box with pink enamel base and monochrome portrait print of Sheridan on the lid with his name above. Bilston C1790. Original internal glass mirror. NB: Richard Brinsley Butler Sheridan was born in 1751 in Dublin, Ireland . His family moved permanently to England in the early 1760s and he studied at Harrow and joined his family at Bath in 1770 where he did his first writing. He became a playwright, his most notable comedy being 'The School for Scandal' which premiered in 1777 and is considered one of the greatest English comedies in manners. He was a Whig politician who sat in the British House of Commons from 1780-1812 representing Stafford, Westminster and Ilchester.He served as Treasurer of the Navy from 1807-1807. He died in 1816 and was buried at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey. Code: Lg7
