The snake has been a powerful image since the Victorian era and continues to be popular even in modern jewelry. It has been an inspiration for jewelry design for ages, often used to symbolize eternity, everlasting love, life and protection. This one-of-a-kind snake mourning pendant from the Georgian (ca1750) era is quite remarkable! Made of 18kt gold this pendant used to be a ring. I thought the ring was odd, it didnt sit properly on the finger. I spent hours trying to figure out hoe to remake the ring better, and then came up with this idea. I had my bench jeweler use body and tail and pull the shank to coil around to form the bale. This way, I was able to utilize the entire ring and create a unique pendant with the tail (shank of ring) coiled. Set in the center of the snake's head and all along its body are old Rose Cut diamonds, which are individually set in box-like links that resemble scales. Fantastic engravings on the tail and body, this was a very well made item. Hidden in the back of its head is a small hole with hair inside. I think there might have been a piece of glass covering it at one time, I am not sure. I have not removed the hair as some collectors prefer the hair left in tact. Let me know if you want it removed! I also was very adamant NOT to buff or polish this piece, it has amazing patina. Turning the dainty ring into this pendant with a large bale allows for this piece to be unisex and enjoyed by anyone. A wonderful piece for any snake lover, it looks fantastic when worn and would make an incredible addition to any collection! I hope you will agree with me, how amazing this piece is!
