Lucan Seal
An 18th century gold and carnelian seal fob showing Bingham quartering Turbeville with Smith in Pretence.   Charles Bingham (1735-1799), 7th Baronet of Castlebar (1752), Baron Lucan of Castlebar (1776).   The Lucans are a notable family.  The 3rd Earl was the Commander of the Cavalry Division at the battle of Balaklava, and the 7th Earl, Richard John Bingham (1934-?) disappeared immediately after the murder of the family's nanny, Sandra Rivett, and an assault on his wife. He was found guilty of murder in absentia and was declared dead in 2016.   This seal has the arms used between 1760 and 1776 and probably dates from the time of his marriage to Margaret, daughter and heir of James Smith MP, in Bath, in 1760.
