Antique European gold bead necklace, end of 19th century
This antique gold bead necklace is crafted in 10k solid gold and was sourced in the UK. While its precise origin and date are unknown, the materials, construction, and aesthetic suggest a likely date to the late 19th century. Though stamped 10k, the necklace glows with a rich, mellow yellow hue reminiscent of higher-karat gold. Each hollow bead is strung along an internal foxtail chain—an intricately woven, flexible core known for its durability and smooth drape. This hidden structure allows the necklace to move fluidly and rest comfortably against the skin, giving the strand both strength and subtle grace. Beyond its clean silhouette lies subtle, thoughtful design. At the clasp, four beads are soldered together to form a single pod, serving as a tactile guide for the fingers. Just before the tongue, one bead is slightly smaller—leaving a gentle recess that nestles against the thumb. These understated details hint at a maker who understood both form and function. Now available on our website.
